The Mysteries of Life

Seems like we're just plopped down here and don't noboby know why

From as far back as I can remember I have been filled with questions that no one could answer, and always the biggest question was who am I? Oh I see that reflection of me there in the mirror, but is that really me? As a child I would spend hours staring into the mirror trying to see deep into my own eyes, searching, searching for the answer of who was in there hidden behind those eyes. I'm still searching, still wondering, who is that, what is that, this strange observer watcher hidden behind the mask of who we really think we are.

Quantum physicists say that we create our reality, although this is a simplistic way of talking about some extremely complex science. They also say that time travel must be possible, but as far as I know, they don't say that our lives are pre-determined and that we are simply walking through pre-ordained experiences. The question of whether or not human beings have what has come to be known as "free will" is something that both religion and philosophy have questioned throughout the ages. If, as quantum science teaches, there are many (perhaps an infinite number of) parallel universes, it may be that the choices we make determine which one we'll find ourselves in. That could be where our free will comes in. And could one of these universes be what so many religions call "heaven?"

And why have I always had this strange "feeling" that I am here to do something, some purpose that only I can find out. And strangely, it seems we all have this strange feeling hidden within us, we all feel some calling.
Film _Matrix: Reloaded_

Architect: Hello, Neo.
Neo: Who are you?
Architect: I am the Architect. I created the Matrix. I've been waiting
for you. You have many questions, and though the process has altered your
consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo some of my answers you will
understand, and some of them you will not. Concordantly, while your first
question may be the most pertinent, you may or may not realize it is also the
most irrelevant.
Neo: Why am I here?
Architect: Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the Matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which, despite my sincerest efforts, I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably...

here.

Neo: You haven't answered my question.
Architect: Quite right.
Interesting. That was quicker than the others.

Stay tuned......................

Animals and Our Souls

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"

"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.

"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.

"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

"Excuse me!" he called to the man.

"Do you have any water?"

"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."

"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.

"There should be a bowl by the pump."

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, and then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.

"This is Heaven," he answered.

"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."

"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."

"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"

"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.

We are less than 5 years now from the great year of 2012. And many theories abound as to what will happen to humanity. But to me, I feel intuitively that we are at some very important crossroad event. Humanity stands at the threshold of leaving this planet and journeying into space. And with the present ecological disasters going on now on this planet, do we deserve to have another one?

Matthew Fox, a spiritual theologian, has been an ordained priest since 1967.

I think animals have so much wisdom to teach us at this time. Its just the wisdom that we have been ignoring. We have a lot of knowledge, but we are low on wisdom. A shaman I met two years ago said to me "The four legged ones are very worried about us two legged ones, very worried. So much so that they are having many, many conferences about us and they have concluded that they have to do something to help us. One thing they are going to do is to appear more in our dreams. The other thing is just to make themselves more visible and play a bigger role even in our domestic lives."
It's the humans responding to the pain and the call of Gaia and the creatures that we better change our ways and wake up - get smart.

June 11, 2007 For nearly two years, pet owners from the low-lying Louisiana parish of St. Bernard have accused sheriff's deputies of having wantonly killed dozens of dogs they forced evacuees to leave behind during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, without regard to the dogs' size or the potential threat they might pose. One owner said her family was forced at gunpoint to leave its dog behind. Another owner said residents became frantic when, they said, they overheard one deputy claim that "once everybody's gone, we're going to have target practice tonight." They claim in court papers that deputies were under " authorization...of their superiors and employers. (picture of Gigi at link) This white poodle, Gigi, was among the dogs allegedly killed by authorities after their owners were forcibly evacuated during Hurricane Katrina. A lawsuit says an animal rescue worker found Gigi shot in the head.
Reading this story I was so filled with anger and heartache for this cruelty. But we are being shown this for a reason, it makes you ashamed doesn't it. And the people who committed these cruel acts see this shame mirrored in eyes all across the globe. I feel great pity for them. They were called upon in a great time of need, and they were sworn to serve and protect. And they allowed the shadow to take hold of their hearts, and some of them may never return from the shadow, and will be lost forever.

A great dying of wild creatures and our beloved pets is being shown to the ones of us who are looking. And it is breaking our hearts and a great cry goes out. And souls are awakening in shame of what they suffer for us.

Animals’ spiritual awareness, sensitivity to energy fluctuations, and extent of emotions and intelligence have long been underestimated or completely disregarded by unfeeling humans, the most brutal killers on Earth. Among some animal species, usually those most commonly considered pets, are highly evolved souls who have chosen to experience in animal bodies, thus they have far more wisdom and spiritual clarity than many within our human population. These animals have come specifically to enhance our relationship with all animal life because this is vital to our individual journeys to evolve to the higher vibrations where cruelty in any form cannot exist. Without the awakening that has come to those who are dedicated to improving the lives of animals, as a species we will perish and become extinct like the dinosaurs.

And we will have deserved it, perhaps the dinosaurs did too.

The clock hands are ticking. Are you listening? Your heart is.

Can you hear the music?

After all Jacks are in their boxes
And the Clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
Footprints dressed in red

AND THE WIND WHISPERS MARY

A broom is drearily sweeping
Up the broken pieces of yesterday's life
Somewhere a Queen is weeping
Somewhere a King has no wife

AND THE WIND CRIES MARY

The traffic lights they turn a blue tomorrow
And shine their emptiness down on my bed
The tiny island sags downstream
Cause the life that they lived is dead

AND THE WIND SCREAMS MARY

Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past
And with it's crutch it's old age and it's wisdom
It whispers "No, This Will Be the Last"

AND THE WIND CRIES MARY
Lyrics by Jimi Hendrix

Life is perfect in its resolve to expand and express an intelligence that is limitless. This is the fundamental purpose of life in all its diverse manifestations.

The presence of the Divine expressing itself as a vibration of equality can be seen in all things. Sensory input derived from the human body is limited to frequencies in specific ranges that only convey an echo of this divine vibration. The divine resonance of all life is understood only through deliberate and focused contemplation of the equality inherent in all things, and through the ability to penetrate beyond the image of a thing to the origin of the image.

Calling forth the divine perceptions of the soul within your own being is the ideal method to access a lasting sensitivity to the divine vibration. This is how you develop the ability to see the Divine in all.

It is not only that the Divine is found within you and within every individual manifestation of life; it is also in itself the wholeness of all life. Thus, this principle calls for seeing the Divine in all its diverse forms of manifestation, as well as in the wholeness of life itself.

These insights stimulate a new sensory system beyond the five senses that rule the physical world. These new senses are an outgrowth of the awakening of your sacred intentions. They are manifestations of the first stage of profound personal transformation. With this new perceptual ability, you will be capable of sensing not only the presence of the Divine, but also the timeless divine essence that exists at the core of every living being.
And everything is alive, including the universe, and the earth.
If you can follow (since I do tend to hop around and dance a lot) see if you can hear the messages and music from the Divine-

Pushing up into our global consciousness is the fact that something is terribly wrong with our world. First birds began to die in amazing numbers. Now our beloved pets are dying from food that is poisoned. And the most disturbing is that millions of bees have just disappeared or vanished. And our lives are deeply entwined with bees. We are deeply indebted to them, because without the bee we will starve.

Now if one were to just read into this deeply disturbing news in a literal sense it would become glaringly apparent that we are destroying ourselves and our world and our future generations.

But what if one were to look deeper and listen for the music of the divine? Could there be more to this than just the literal disturbing news stories?

Life, in this definition, is an individual's sovereign reality. It is subjective and impressionable. Life is the wholeness of experience flowing past the individual's field of perception in the present moment. There is never a closure to life, nor a final chapter written. It is eternal, not only in the abstract sense of never ending or beginning, but also in the real sense that life is ever expanding in order to express divine intelligence in all realities within the universe.

Nurturance of life is the principle whereby an individual is in alignment with the natural expansion of intelligence inherent within all life. This alignment enhances the life energy that flows past the individual with the clear intent of gentle support. It is the action of opening to the highest motive in all people and in all life and supporting the flow of this highest intention towards its ultimate expression. In so doing, the action is performed without judgment, analysis, or attachment to outcome. It involves simply nurturing the highest energy that flows from all people and all beings, and thus supporting their fullest expression of life.

This is a departure from the normal perception that nurturing support can only be granted when others are in alignment with your personal will and desires. When, instead, you view everything in your life as an integrated energy flowing as an expression of ever-expanding divine intelligence, all life is honored as an extension of the Divine. In this context, there is no energy that is misdirected or unworthy of support and nurturance. While this may seem contrary to the evidence of abusive energy upon the Earth, even energy that is laden with "evil intent" is nevertheless energy that is flowing outward in search of a higher expression.

All people and all forms of life can be nurtured and supported to their highest expression. This is the fundamental purpose of this principle. It is greatly facilitated by the intention to perceive the original motive and ultimate expression of life energy as it passes through your field of awareness.

Energy is an element of life that is so subtly interwoven with form that it is one, in much the same manner as space and time are inextricably linked in union. Energy is a motive. It is intelligent beyond the mind's ability to reason. While it is a force that can be subject to applications that deny its highest expression, energy is always imbuing life with the motive to expand and evolve.

Life energy is always in a state of becoming. It is never static or regressive in its natural state. You are very capable of nurturing this natural expansion of energy to forge new channels of expression and experience. In fact, it is your primary purpose to expand the life energy that encircles your personal reality, and to transform it to new levels of expression that more clearly reflect the perspective of divine essence.

On June 25, 2004 this crop circle appeared Bee Crop Circle

And interesting to note that the previous night when this crop circle formed (June 24) is known as "St. John's Day". St. John's Day wiki link

And John the Baptist is famous for surviving in the wilderness on locusts and "wild honey". Ever asked yourself or wondered why the majority of the ancient gothic cathedrals and churchs are dedicated to either St. John or Mary? Not Jesus?

In the above bee crop circle link the author makes note of many symbolic dreams -
My essay was based on the Navaho Sand Painting called, "The Pollen Path," which is one of the examples given by Joseph Campbell as relating to the midpoint of seven, as three and a half. This indicates the seven chakra levels of consciousness with the the midpoint or fourth point as significant. This is the Heart chakra level. The thesis of my essay is that humanity is near the three and a half point, and the leap to the Heart Chakra level, en mass.
I believe the Woman with Child is related to Mother Goddess figures in many mythologies, such as Isis, Ishtar, Sakti, Sophia, Shekinah, etc. In the Christian tradition, it would be the Virgin Mary. The Heart Chakra is symbolized by a twelve-petaled lotus flower, with a Star Of David inside. The New Jerusalem has 12 gates, pearls, and angels.
The Goddess figure is sometimes related as having daughters. The Bible has this as the daughters of the harlot. In the Babylonian myths, Ishtar is said to be the mother of all the harlots in Babylon. Isaiah 4:4 says,
". . . when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by a spirit of burning."
The idea I have is that the Mother Goddess figure in the New Age is related to the Holy Spirit, and that Her Daughters will be the the Holy Spirit aspect within each individual. You might say this is the "repair" of the Motorcycle.
I had developed a theory that a bicycle or motorcycle was a dream symbol of the duality, as two wheels moving in tandem. The Great Change seems to clearly involve a duality balancing of the female and male attributes within us human beings.

You may have read many articles related to duality and when the two become one. And many articles relating to the return of the Goddess. These should not be taken "literally" to mean that women should rule the world or that men have to become feminine. It merely means the balance of life the yin/yang, and yin refers to "nature" and more.

And just a few days ago science papers were full of the strange, rotating hexagon found on Saturn's pole.

And hexagon is described as
n geometry, a hexagon is a polygon with six edges and six vertices. Its Schläfli symbol is {6}.
The internal angles of a regular hexagon (one where all sides and all angles are equal) are all 120° and the hexagon has 720 degrees. It has 6 lines of symmetry.. Like squares and equilateral triangles, regular hexagons fit together without any gaps to tile the plane (three hexagons meeting at every vertex), and so are useful for constructing tessellations. The cells of a beehive honeycomb are hexagonal for this reason and because the shape makes efficient use of space and building materials. The Voronoi diagram of a regular triangular lattice is the honeycomb tessellation of hexagons.

And stranger still n French, the term l'hexagone (the hexagon) is often used as a nickname for France, since the country is shaped somewhat like a hexagon.

In Bloodline of the Holy Grail, Laurence Gardner explains the importance of the bee to Merovingian royalty -- bees make honey, a symbol of insight and wisdom. Although Gardiner appeals to Scripture which likens honey with the knowledge of wisdom, the secret doctrine of the occultist redefines these terms as gnôsis (the Greek word for 'knowledge' or 'insight') and the ancient wisdom of the Hermetic tradition, i.e. sorcery. The emperor Napoleon is included among the Merovingian worthies because, in 1810, he married Marie-Louise, the daughter of Francis II, the last Habsburg to sit upon the throne of the Holy Roman Empire.

"The Merovingian kings were noted sorcerers in the manner of the Samaritan Magi, and they firmly believed in the hidden power of the honeycomb. Because a honeycomb is naturally made up of hexagonal prisms, it was considered by philosophers to be the manifestation of divine harmony in nature. Its construction was associated with insight and wisdom — as detailed in Proverbs 24:13-14...

"To the Merovingians the bee was a most hallowed creature. A sacred emblem of Egyptian royalty, it became a symbol of Wisdom. Some 300 golden bees were found stitched to the cloak of Childeric I (the son of Meroveus) when his grave was unearthed in 1653. Napoleon had these attached to his own coronation robe in 1804. He claimed this right by virtue of his descent from James de Rohan-Stuardo, the natural son (legitimated 1667) of Charles II Stuart of Britain by Marguerite, Duchesse de Rohan. The Stuarts were in turn entitled to this distinction because they, and their related Counts of Brittany, were descended from Clodion's brother Fredemundus--thus (akin to the Merovingians) they were equally in descent from the Fisher Kings through Faramund. The Merovingian bees are still to be seen on some Jacobite glassware." - 29:171-2

Recall that the predecessor of the Prieuré de Sion was the Society of Ormus, to which the Therapeutae of Alexandria and the Essenes of Qumran attached themselves. The word Essene means king bee. The Qumran desert, where the Essene community was established, is located on the ancient site of Gomorrah, the city which God judged with for its homosexual perversion. (Gen. 19; Jer. 17:5,6) The Essenes were also priests of the Greek goddess Diana, a lesbian, whose symbol was the bee. The Mother Goddess, under her various names, was known as the Queen Bee while the priests who ministered in her temples were called Essenes or King Bees. (this was copied from a very anti gnostic site).

"The symbol of the bee is also used in Mormon temples today. The bee is the state symbol for Utah. Furthermore, Mormon doctrine teaches that Mary Magdalene was the wife of Jesus Christ. The religion of the Mormon Church of the Latter Day Saints is replete with Merovingian ideology..." - 127:82

[From www.npr.org :]
[QUANTUM BEES] -- Robert talks to mathematician Barbara Shipman about her cross-disciplinary discovery. In mapping a six-dimensional figure onto two-dimensions, she recognized the pattern as that of the honeybee's ritual dance. To her, this implies that bees can sense the quantum world, since it is in that realm that six-dimensional geometry has real meaning. The bees use the dance to communicate to others in the hive the location and distance of a pollen source:

the dance that honey bees do to tell their hivemates where they have found a good food source. The bees change the form of the dance acording to the location of the flowers that constitute the source. The surprising thing is that there may be a deep mathematical reason for how the dance changes form. The reason is related to a space in symplectic geometry known as a "flag manifold." Although no one is suggesting that honey bees understand flag manifolds, it is possible that the instincts which control their behavior are wired in such a way that the principles of this kind of geometry apply.

"...guided along as it were
a chain of flowers into
the mysteries of life."

Telling the Bees there has been a death in the family, or a change in the head of the household is a little known superstition these days, but I remember speaking to the bees with my grandmother as a child.

It is a Scots/Celtic superstition, and so it should have a third component. For me, it is that the bee is a symbol of resurrection and immortality, often used that way in heraldry, too. The word is related to beo, byw - 'to be living.'

I believe these are all symbolic of the great union within the self....outwardly it is the emerging of Kundilini energy and the circuit is connected between the Pituitary (feminine) and the Pineal (masculine)...within the Kings chamber (third Ventricle of the brain) the Throne. Inwardly a star is born, the creative spark manifests. You are "reborn" in a way...maybe that's the real intent of that word... probably from ancient rituals.

So are you totally lost and befuddled or are you beginning to listen and hear the music of the divine?

The Sound of Music - Part 2

"A person does not hear sound only through the ears;
he hears sound through every pore of his body.
It permeates the entire being,
and according to its particular influence either slows
or quickens the rhythm of the blood circulation;
it either wakens or soothes the nervous system.
It arouses a person to greater passions
or it calms him by bringing him peace.
According to the sound and its influence
a certain effect is produced.
Sound becomes visible in the form of radiance.
This shows that the same energy which goes into the form of sound
before being visible is absorbed by the physical body.
In that way the physical body recuperates
and becomes charged with new magnetism."
~ from 'Mysticism of Sound' by Hazrat Inayat Khan ~

"Do you know that our soul
is composed of harmony?"
~ Leonardo DaVinci ~

The bird is an animal almost universally exalted and accepted as symbolically being associated with the soul, as a messenger of the gods, as carriers of souls, an oracle or seen to possess the spirit of loved ones whilst also being a symbol of good or evil. The Ancient Greeks actually developed a science from the study of birds and their activities called 'Ornithomancy' and since then, birds have continued to feature heavily in folklore across the world even in the 20th-century imagination. It is no surprise that the modern Western super hero 'Superman' has the special ability to fly and is also given a name that indicates supreme powers. Perhaps this is because man has long wanted to be able to fly. Take the story of 'Icarus' as just one such further example.

In folklore birds are seen to possess the ability to talk offering guidance to humans. Carl G. Jung, the psychiatrist, (See Mystical WWW Philosophy), said that birds represented the inner spirit of a person and that birds were seen to be associated with angels, flights of fancy and the supernatural.

The Egyptians associated birds with the soul or 'ba', and the hawk specifically with the soul of 'Horus' and the pharaoh. Some Native American beliefs see the birds as personifications of the rain and the wind. Shamans are known for transforming into the shape of birds to be able to leave the body and soar up into the universe. The patron god of the ancient Aztec civilization was 'Huitzilopochtli'. The Aztecs believed that the dead were reborn as 'Colibris' which were the birds of their patron god, and hence held all birds in high esteem.

Mental health 'helped by birdsong'

Birdsong has a powerful healing effect which can improve mental health and benefit hospital patients, according to a health expert.

Dr William Bird, GP, who is a health adviser for the countryside agency, Natural England, said tests had proven the effect. He cites a 2004 report in the prestigious medical journal, Thorax, on the effects of birdsong on patients recovering from a lung operation. "They needed less pain relief and were far more relaxed," he said.

Dr Bird also recommended birdsong for the elderly and for those who suffer from high levels of stress. "We have lost our connection with nature," he said, adding: "By having birdsong, it's away of connecting back, and our mental health improves when that connection has been made."

Research has found that "ultra waves" increase in the brain when subjects are shown a natural scene, and Dr Bird said the same effect occured with birdsong.

Mark Avery, director of Conservation at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, said that bird sounds were a "tonic" for people's general wellbeing.

Wikipedia describes bird song - Bird songs are certain vocal sounds that birds make—in non-technical use, those sounds that are melodious to the human ear. In ornithology, bird 'songs' are often distinguished from shorter sounds, which may be termed 'calls'.

Musicologists believe that birdsong has had a large influence on the development of music. Although the extent of this influence is impossible to gauge, it is sometimes easy to see some of the specific ways composers have integrated birdsong with music.

There seem to be three general ways musicians or composers can be affected by birdsong: they can be influenced or inspired (consciously or unconsciously) by birdsong, they can include intentional imitations of bird song in a composition, or they can incorporate recordings of birds into their works.

One early example of a composition that imitates birdsong is Janequin's Le Chant Des Oiseaux, written in the 16th century. Other composers who have quoted birds, or who have used birdsong as a compositional springboard, include Biber (Sonata Representativa), Beethoven (Sixth Symphony), Wagner (Siegfried) and jazz musicians Paul Winter (Flyway) and Jeff Silverbush (Grandma Mickey).

Twentieth century French composer Olivier Messiaen deserves special mention, as he composed with birdsong extensively. His Catalogue d'Oiseaux is a seven-book set of solo piano pieces based upon birdsong. His orchestral piece Réveil des Oiseaux is composed almost entirely of birdsong. Many of his other compositions, including Quatuor pour la fin du temps, similarly integrate birdsong.

Italian composer Ottorino Respighi, with his The Pines of Rome (1923-1924), may have been the first to compose a piece of music that calls for the addition of pre-recorded birdsong. A few years later, Respighi wrote Gli Uccelli ("The birds"), based on Baroque pieces imitating birds.

American jazz musician Eric Dolphy sometimes listened to birds while he practiced flute. He claimed to have incorporated bird song into some of his improvisational music.

In the psychedelic era of the 1960's and 1970's, many rock bands included sound effects in their recordings. Birds were a popular choice. The English band Pink Floyd included bird sound effects in many of the songs from their 1969 albums More and Ummagumma (see, for example, the song Cirrus Minor). Similarly, the English singer Kate Bush incorporated bird sound effects into much of the music on her 2005 album, Aerial.

Music hall artist Ronnie Ronalde, has gained notoriety for his whistling imitations of birds and for integrating birdsong with human song. His songs 'In A Monastery Garden' and 'If I Were A Blackbird' include imitations of the blackbird, his "signature bird."

The French composer François-Bernard Mâche has been credited with the creation of zoomusicology, the study of the music of animals. His essay Musique, mythe, nature, ou les Dauphins d'Arion (1983)includes a study of "ornitho-musicology," in which he speaks of "animal musics" and a longing to connect with nature.

Bird song and poetry
Bird song is a popular subject in poetry. Famous poems inspired by bird song include Percy Bysshe Shelley's To a Skylark ("Hail to thee, blithe Spirit!/Bird thou never wert") and Gerard Manley Hopkins' Sea and Skylark.

Zoomusicology Zoomusicology is a field of musicology and zoology or more specifically, zoosemiotics. Zoomusicology is the study of the music of animals, or rather the musical aspects of sound or communication produced and received by animals.
Zoomusicology may be distinguished from ethnomusicology, the study of human music. Zoomusicology is most often biomusicological, and biomusicology is often zoomusicological.

In the opinion of Jean-Jacques Nattiez (1990), "in the last analysis, it is a human being who decides what is and is not musical, even when the sound is not of human origin. If we acknowledge that sound is not organized and conceptualized (that is, made to form music) merely by its producer, but by the mind that perceives it, then music is uniquely human." According to Mâche, "If it turns out that music is a wide spread phenomenon in several living species apart from man, this will very much call into question the definition of music, and more widely that of man and his culture, as well as the idea we have of the animal itself." (Mâche 1992: 95)

Shinji Kanki composes music for dolphins according to conventions found in dolphin music or found to please dolphins in his Music for Dolphins (Ultrasonic Improvisational Composition) for underwater ultrasonic loudspeakers (2001).
Composers have evoked or imitated animal sounds in compositions including Jean-Philippe Rameau's The Hen (1728), Camille Saint-Saëns's Carnival of the Animals (1886), Olivier Messiaen's Catalogue of the Birds (1956-58), and Pauline Oliveros's El Relicario de los Animales (1977). (Von Gunden 1983, p.133)

The icaros (sacred healing songs and chants) sung by ayahuasca healers, or shamanic practitioners, among Amazonian tribes are evocative of many of the sounds of birds, animals and insects of the jungle.

Messiaen: Quartet for the End of Time
Messiaen uses rhythmic motifs of 17 notes and 29 notes which play together. The different prime numbers ensure that the motifs are constantly creating new combinations of sound as the music evolves. It gives the piece a sense of timelessness because it takes a very long time before the two motifs will repeat a pattern already heard. Messiaen is using the same principle as the prime number cicada who avoids its periodic predator by choosing a prime.

Messiaen wrote in the preface to the score that the work was inspired by text from the tenth chapter of the Book of Revelation:

"And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire… and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth… And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever and ever,… that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished…"

Songbirds Update 1 March 2007

In 1986 Quantum brought you a story about two Aussie scientists who made a controversial discovery about the origin of songbirds. Dr Les Christidis and Dr Richard Schodde were mocked by the scientific community after claiming that many songbirds actually originated from Australia. Tonight, we revisit this story to find out if 20 years of scientific advancements have helped them silence the critics.

Whistled languages are a form of communication used by many indigenous people around the world. The languages differs according to whether the spoken language is tonal or not, with the whistling being either tone or articulation based. Tonal languages are stripped of articulation, leaving only suprasegmental features such as duration and tone, and when whistled retain the spoken melodic line. In non-tonal languages, some of the articulatory features of speech are retained, though the normally timbral variations imparted by the movements of the tongue and soft palate are transformed into pitch variations.

Thus whistled languages convey phonemic information solely through tone, length, and, to a lesser extent, stress, and many phonemic distinctions of the spoken language are lost. "All whistled languages share one basic characteristic: they function by varying the frequency of a simple wave-form as a function of time, generally with minimal dynamic variation, which is readily understandable since in most cases their only purpose is long-distance communication." (ibid: 32)

Languages communicated by whistling are relatively rare, but are known from around the world. One example is the Silbo on the island of La Gomera in the Canary Islands, which maintains Spanish's five vowels, but reduces its consonants down to four. Others exist or existed in all parts of the world including Turkey (Kusköy "Village of the Birds"), France (the village of Aas in the Pyrenees), Mexico (the Zapotecs of Oaxaca), South America (Piraha), Asia (the Chepang of Nepal), and New Guinea. They are especially common and robust today in parts of West Africa, used widely in such populous languages as Yoruba and Ewe. Even French is whistled in some areas of western Africa.
In continental Africa, speech may be conveyed by a whistle or other musical instrument, most famously the "talking drums". However, while drums may be used by griots singing praise songs or for inter-village communication, and other instruments may be used on the radio for station identification jingles, for regular conversation at a distance whistled speech is used. As two people approach each other, one may even switch from whistled to spoken speech in mid-sentence.

In the Greek village of Antia, the entire population knows how to whistle their speech, and whistled conversations are also carried on at close range.

As the expressivity of whistled speech is limited compared to spoken speech, whistled messages typically consist of stereotyped or otherwise standardized or set expressions, are elaborately descriptive, and often have to be repeated.
However, in languages which are heavily tonal, and therefore convey much of their information through pitch even when spoken, such as Mazatec and Yoruba, extensive conversations may be whistled.

In Africa and indigenous Mexican communities, whistled language is used only by men.

Whistled languages are normally found and used in locations with abrupt relief created by difficult mountainous terrain, slow or difficult communication (no telephones), low population density and/or scattered settlements, and other isolating features such as sheepherding and cultivation of hillsides.

The main advantage of whistling speech is that it allows the speaker to cover much larger distances (typically 12 km but up to 5 km) than ordinary speech, and this is assisted by the relief found in areas where whistled languages are used. In practice, many areas with such languages work hard to preserve their ancient traditions, in the face of rapidly advancing telecommunications systems in many areas.

A whistled tone is essentially a simple oscillation (or sine wave), and thus timbral variations are impossible. Normal articulation during an ordinary lip-whistle is relatively easy though the lips move little causing a constant of labialization and making labial and labiodental consonants (p, b, m, f, etc.) impossible.

Shepherds who whistle to each other across the rocky terrain of the Canary Islands off northwest Africa are shedding light on the language-processing abilities of the human brain, according to scientists.

Researchers say the endangered whistled "language'" of Gomera island activates parts of the brain normally associated with spoken language, suggesting that the brain is remarkably flexible in its ability to interpret sounds as language.
"Science has developed the idea of brain areas that are dedicated to language, and we are starting to understand the scope of signals that can be recognized as language," said David Corina, co-author of the study and associate professor of psychology at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Silbo Gomero is a substitute for Spanish, with individual words recoded into whistles. Vowels and consonants are replaced by tones that are whistled at different frequencies. ("Silbo" comes from the Spanish "silbar" -to whistle.)
Known as silbadores, the whistlers of Gomera are traditionally shepherds and other isolated mountain folk. Their novel means of staying in touch allows them to communicate over long distances - Silbador whistles can travel up to six miles (ten kilometers). "Spanish consonants are mapped into four different whistles and the five vowels into two whistles," explained lead researcher Manuel Carreiras, psychology professor at the University of La Laguna on the Canary island of Tenerife. "There is much more ambiguity in the whistled signal than in the spoken signal," he added.

Because whistled "words" can be hard to distinguish, silbadores also rely on repetition and context to make themselves understood.

The Sound of Music - Part 1

The Music of the Ainur

There was Eru, the One, who in Arda is called Illuvatar: and he made the first Ainur, the Holy Ones, that were the offspring of his thought, and they were with him before aught else was made. And he spoke to the, propounding to them themes of music; and they sang before him, and he was glad. But for a long while they sang only each alone, or but few together, while the rest hearkened; for each comprehended only that part of the mind of Iluvatar from which he came, and in the understanding of their brethren they grew but slowly. Yet ever as they listened they came to deeper understanding, and increased in unison and harmony.

And it came to pass that Illuvatar called together all the Ainur and declared to them a mighty theme, unfolding to them things greater and more wonderful than he had yet revealed; and the glory of its beginning and the splendor of its end amazed the Ainur, so that they bowed before Illuvatar and were silent.

Then Illuvatar said to them: “Of the theme that I have declared to you, I will now make ye make in harmony together a Great Music. And since I have kindled you with the Flame Imperishable, ye shall show forth your powers in adorning this theme, each with his own thoughts and devices, if he will. But I will sit and hearken, and be glad that through you great beauty has been wakened into song.”

Then the voice of the Ainur, like unto harps and lutes, and pipes and trumpets, and viols and organs, and like unto countless choirs singing with words, began to fashion the theme of Illuvatar to a great music; and a sound arose of endless interchanging melodies woven in harmony that passed beyond hearing into the depths and into the flowing, and the music and the echo of the music went out into the Void, and it was not void. Never since have the Ainur made any music like to this music, though it has been said that a greater still shall be made before Illuvatar by the choirs of the Ainur and the Children of Illuvatar after the end of days. Then the themes of Illuvatar shall be played aright, and take being in the moment of their utterance, for all shall then understand fully his intent in their part, and each shall know the comprehension of each, and Illuvatar shall give to their thoughts the secret fire, being well-pleased

The fact that the "world is sound" isn't just a widespread myth or legend. It is confirmed in the established findings of fundamental harmonic research and many other disciplines. We have found the world's tonal character confirmed in DNA genes and electron spins, in the solar wind and geomagnetism, in the weather and in the "song" of flowers and plants. Ever since the time of his incarnation, man has progressively lost his original spiritual perception. This has worked to divorce music and language from the natural harmonies and rhythms, which were and remain the primordial condition of all things.

AURORAL SOUNDS

March 13, 1989. This night on a cattle ranch in South Dakota, L. Hasselstrom was dazzled by waves of blue auroral light sweeping up from the horizon and meeting at a focal point nearly directly overhead. As the sky blazed, with the blue waves and crimson streamers, she heard:

"...a distant tinkling, like bells. It came again, louder, just as a curtain of green light swept the entire width of the sky from north to south. Each time green flushed the sky, the bells rang, the sound softening to a gentle tinkle as the light died."
(Hasselstrom, Linda; "Night of the Bells," Readers Digest, p. 185, April 1992. Cr. J.B. Dotson.)

Comment. Note the correlation of the sound with the green portion of the aurora.

July 29, 1990. On Coll Island in Centennial Lake, 120 kilometers west of Ottawa. Watching an auroral display, L.R. Morris heard the sound of the aurora:

"It was a faint but distant windlike sound; which, by process of elimination, could not be accounted for by any phenomenon other than the aurora."
(Anonymous; "Auroral Sounds," Sky & Telescope, 83:105, January 1992. Cr. D. Snowhook.)

Comment. Auroras have been heard for centuries, but they "shouldn't be." Current theory restricts auroral activity to altitudes above 50 miles, where a fair vacuum prevails, and sound generation and propagation are impossible. One explanation for auroral sounds is that intense electromagnetic waves created by the auroras sweep through thee observer's brain and are rendered as sound (electrophonic sound). But perhaps some auroras reach down lower into the atmosphere than theory allows.

The Sun emits a constant stream of charged particles (for convenience, the "Solar wind"). As you probably know, any moving electric charge creates a magnetic field, and vice versa. This Solar wind, in turn, interferes with various earthbound fields to cause such astounding phenomena as the aurora borealis, or 'northern lights' (it also causes comet trails, which is why the trails always point away from the sun, even when the comet is on its way back 'out' of the solar system).

The planet that hums
by Robert Coontz from _New Scientist_ September 11, 1999
THEY LIVE UNDERGROUND. They are everywhere but seem to come from nowhere. They barely exist, but never leave. If sounds have shadows, they are the shadows of a sound.

Researchers call them the background free oscillations of the Earth. But last year, when a pair of Japanese geophysicists named Naoki Suda and Kazunari Nawa dredged them out of a mass of seismic data, some people called them a hum. That's a comforting thought: a mystic Om, perhaps, or just the warm, cosy sound of a planet going about its business.

Don't try to tune in, you'll never hear it, though. The Hum is far too low for human ears to detect and is so feeble that a single 5.5-magnitude earthquake can blot it out. That's just as well because, if you could hear it, the Hum might drive you mad.

"It's a very messy noise," says Hiroo Kanamori, a geophysicist at the California Institute of Technology. Messy because the Hum is not one note but fifty, crammed into less than two octaves. Their pitches range between 2 and 7 millihertz. Musically speaking, that's about sixteen octaves below middle C. Speeded up and amplified so you could hear it, the result would be a Stockhausenesque cacophony. Imagine sitting down at a piano and slamming down every note within reach, while somebody next to you does the same thing on a piano a quarter tone out of tune. "It would be like banging a trash can," Kanamori says. Endlessly.

The individual notes are pleasant enough. They are the natural tones that the Earth makes whenever something--an earthquake, a meteor, a nuclear test--sets it ringing. They are known as "free" oscillations because, like the clang of a bell or the twang of a guitar string, they keep on sounding for a while after their source is gone.

Music and the Earth Spirit

This is a book about music and sound; a multi-cultural exploration from pre-history to the present day, revealing how man has used these forms to commune with nature and the environment. Underlying this communion is an acknowledgement of the spiritual powers of Mother Earth herself. The author shows how music and sound can be used to enable a "tuning" into this spirit. The book includes sound workings enabling the reader to sing his/her own Earth spirit song. ISBN 186163 1170

The mystery of chanting.

Om also Aum (om) noun
Hinduism & Buddhism.
The supreme and most sacred syllable, consisting in Sanskrit of the three sounds (a), (u), and (m), representing various fundamental triads and believed to be the spoken essence of the universe. It is uttered as a mantra and in affirmations and blessings.
[Sanskrit om.]

OM
The imperishable sound,
is the seed of all that exists.
The past, present, the future,
all are but the unfolding of OM.
And whatever transcends the three realms of time,
that indeed is the flowering of OM.
This pure self and OM are as one,
and the different quarters of the self
correspond to OM and its sounds.

The Masonic Secret Word:

Not to be confused with the password. The Word (always capitalized) is so secret that initiates are taught it one letter at a time. First they learn A, then O, then M, and finally I. The Word is IAOM.

You never get a straight story as to what it means. As best as anyone can figure, it is the ineffable name of god, or some approximation thereof. The Word (or Name) is a tongue-twister. It takes some practice to get it right. The following pronunciation guide is from _Masonry and Its Symbols in the Light of Thinking and Destiny_ by Harold Waldwin Percival:

The Name is pronounced as follows: It is started by opening the lips with an "ee" sound graduating into a broad "a" as the mouth opens wider with lips forming an oval shape and then graduating the sound to "o" as the lips form a circle, and again modulating to an "m" sound as the lips close to a point. This point resolves itself to a point within the head. Expressed phonetically the Name is "EE-Ah-Oh-Mmm" and is pronounced with one continuous out-breathing with a slight nasal tone in the manner described above. it can be correctly and properly expressed with its full power only by one who has brought his physical body to a state of perfection...

from: _Big Secrets_ by William Poundstone

Dealing wirh sound means dealing with listening. Experiments have shown that no other sense can register impulses as minimal as those that the ear can register. The amplitude of the vibrations of our eardrum lies in the area of 10 [to the] -9 [power]. That is smaller than the wave length of visible light and even less than the diameter of a hydrogen atom. The smallest stimuli our ear can just barely perceive, on the other hand, have to be amplified by a factor of 10 [to the] 6 [power] in order to reach the level of the highest volume perceivable, by a factor in the million range. Were we to amplify the smallest impulses our eyes can register by the same factor, we would be blinded instantly. Hans Kayser points out the astonishing fact that our ears are the only human sense organ that is able to perceive numerical quantity as well as numerical value.

"The ears not only recognize exact numerical proportions, that is, numerical quantities like 1:2 as an octave, 2:3 as a fifth, 3:4 as a fourth, etc.; at the same time they hear ... values that they perceive as C, G, F, and so on. So the tone value fuses two elements into one unit: the element of sensing--the tone, that is--with the element of thinking, of numerical value. And this happens in such an exact manner that the value of the tone can be checked precisely against the value of the number, and the value of the number against the value of the tone.

"Among all our human senses we only have one organ that is capable of this fusion--the ears. In this way sensation controls deliberation--or to put it differently: Our soul is thus capable of deciding on the correctness or incorrectness of an intellectual quantity. Conversely, the phenomenon of tone value also gives us the opportunity to develop proportions and numerical values in the realm of the psyche."

The German poet Goethe aptly described architecture as "frozen music". Spatial periodicities are the analogs of "rhythm" in music. As we will see, spatial periodicities can be more than analogues of musical sounds. They can introduce audible, tonal elements of their own!

When periodic design elements are composed of sound reflective materials (such as stone), and if certain other conditions are met, odd echoes or other strange acoustical effects may result.

Stockhausen, Karlheinz
Stockhausen, Karlheinz (1928- ), German composer, who was one of the most prominent avant-garde composers of the mid-20th century. He was born in Cologne. In 1953 Stockhausen helped found Cologne's important Electronic Music Studio. His works include the wind quintet Time Measure (1956); Gruppen (1955-1957), written for three orchestras; Zyklus (1961), for solo percussionist; the multimedia work Beethausen, opus 1970, von Stockhoven (1970); and the chamber works Ylem (1973) and Tierkreis (1977). Youthsong (1956) projects a singing boy's voice, mingled with electronic sounds, through five spatially separated loudspeakers.

In the book _Stockhausen: towards A Cosmic Music_, the German avant-garde composer Karlheinz Stockhausen describes the human body as an indredibly complicated vibrating instrument of perception. The composer, who travels the vast spaceways that link electronic music and mysticism, argues that the "esoteric" is simply that which cannot yet be explained by science.

"Every genuine composition makes conscious something of this esoteric realm. This process is endless, and there will be more and more esotericism as knowledge and science become increasingly capable of revealing human beings as perceivers." And transmitters as well. Spiritual or not, we are beings of vibrating sensation, floating in an infinite sea of pulsing waves that roll and resonate between the synapse and the farthest star.

Paul McCartney listened to composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, a messiah in the world of electronic music but to the mid-60s pop star an unknown commodity. It was the German's 1956 'plick-plop' piece t - _Gesang der Junglinge_, a boy's voice construed and converted with a panoply of electronic sounds, that inspired McCartney to utilize his Brennell tape recorders for less conventional purposes, as Stockhausen himself had done the previous decade. McCartney, an advocate of all things melodious, had undergone a reformation of thought, no longer subscribing to the ingrained belief that rhythm, time signatures and even melody were essential.

The Beatles' musical language expanded incredibly in their consummate masterpiece, _Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band_ (Parlophone: June 1, 1967). The album was a potpourri of rock 'n' roll, Western classical music, Indian classical music, early 20th-century vaudeville music, and modern electronic music employing compositional techniques such as indeterminacy and playing tapes backwards, as pioneered by the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen whose photo appeared on the album cover along with a host of other celebrities.

Should music be free?
http://fusionanomaly.net/freemusicphilosophy.html

I always tell people, music is a form of communication that predates language, straight up. It's been around forever. And it wasn't until about the turn of the century that they figured out a way to bottle the water, you know? Before that, music was a river. It was a river and everyone could sip from that river. But then someone came along with the idea that, "Hey, we can bottle this, and we can sell this water." And people were like, "Well, that's kind of cool, that's convenient, because I can take it home with me, or I can put it in my pocket and take it on a walk and have something to drink," which is fine. That's a reasonable industry, to go ahead and put some water in a bottle and sell it. That's fine. But the problem is when they start trying to discourage people from going to the river, or trying to close the river, or even worse, poison the river -- then it's not all right. Then it stinks.

And, for me, music is not an industry. Music is not even entertainment. Music is not just a soundtrack. Music is part of life. It is a straight-up form of communication, and it resides in every person in the world. And that's where I'm coming from in terms of music. That's exactly the world that I want to be… that's what I want to lean toward. It's sort of like clothes -- you live in a cold climate in a country that has these kinds of laws that you have to wear pants all the time, but basically, they're fairly artificial, they're a bizarre thing when you think about it. If you think about it, the whole deal is weird -- why does everyone have to wear clothes all the time? But that's the context in which I exist. I can appreciate [it] and I can go on with that. At the same time, when it comes to music, there are certain elements of what we do with music that are just distasteful. If people see music as just a living, they're just screwed. They're just gonna make something that's not music, in my opinion. But there are plenty of other people out there who are making incredible music who are not even thinking about money, and that's really where you're gonna find all the new ideas. It's always in the free space.

Strange Days are Here

Strange days have found us
Strange days have tracked us down
They're going to destroy Our casual joys
We shall go on playing Or find a new town
Yeah!
Strange eyes fill strange rooms
Voices will signal their tired end
The hostess is grinning Her guests sleep from sinning
Hear me talk of sin And you know this is it
Strange Days have found us
And through their strange hours We linger alone
Melodies confused Memories misused
As we run from the day To a strange night of stone

Strange Days Lyrics
by Doors
On the last Sunday in January, strange men in black appeared at several churches in North Carolina
Were they, like the Blues Brothers, on a mission from God? Kannapolis Police say at least seven churches had visits last Sunday from men — strangers to the congregations — who disrupted services or Sunday school before leaving as quickly as they appeared. They left, according to witnesses, in a large car, possibly a Lincoln. The disruptions at the churches sometimes involved the men standing up during the services and speaking in what some pastors identified as Hebrew. Other times, the visitors spoke in broken English or plain English, Maj. Woody Chavis of the Kannapolis Police Department said. "Each church reported that the individuals seemed to be there to deliver some type of message but were acting strangely and made no sense," a police statement said. The strangers dressed in casual clothing. Up to three individuals appeared at some churches. One or two men showed up at others. "They haven't broken the law, but we would like to know who they are," Chavis said. The Police Department issued a press release Thursday alerting churches to last Sunday's events and seeking more information, if other churches have any. The men did not make threats or pose a danger last Sunday, Chavis said. "We certainly don't want to cause any undue alarm," Chavis added, "but we would just like to know who they are so they don't upset the congregations." Three men walked into Mount Zion First Freewill Baptist Church on Pleasant Avenue as Pastor Walt Lyman delivered the sermon Sunday morning. One stayed in the church vestibule while two walked to the front of the sanctuary and began speaking in what sounded like Hebrew, Lyman said. Lyman couldn't understand the men, so he motioned to former pastor J.E. Rahme, who was sitting in the front row. Rahme said he knows a little Hebrew and understood the men to say they wanted to speak right then. He told them, in English, that Lyman was the pastor and they'd have to ask him. The men then got down on their knees, put their faces to the floor and appeared to pray, Lyman said. Then, they got up and left without saying another word. Lyman described the two men who came into the sanctuary as young and well dressed. He said they appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent. He said the men were in the church only a few minutes and didn't seem intent on causing a disturbance but "kinda upset a bunch of my church members." "Just the way they came in the church kind of upset everybody," he said. "We welcome all visitors irregardless of race, creed or anything, but there's a right way and a wrong way of doing things and that certainly wasn't the right way." One man showed up at Franklin Heights Baptist Church on Wright Avenue around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, just as Sunday School was starting, Pastor Jim Grigg said. The man approached some church members and kept repeating a Hebrew phrase. The church members escorted the man to Grigg's office. Grigg asked him questions, but the man just continued to say "Jehovah shalom" — "God is Peace" — over and over. "He said a lot more, but I didn't have a clue what he meant by it," Grigg said. Grigg said the man did ask, in English, if he could visit the church. And as he was leaving, the man yelled "Peace" in English several times even as he continued repeating the Hebrew phrases. Grigg said the man looked to be in his early 20s and was very well dressed. The pastor called the incident "very shocking" but said he didn't think much more about it until he heard of similar instances at other churches. "Really, it was no trouble caused at all," he said. As far as officers can determine, Maj. Chavis said, the incidents occurred only in Kannapolis. "It's rather unusual, and we really didn't know about it until after the fact," he said. Church officials didn't contact police until late Sunday afternoon — and only after members from different congregations compared stories. Seven churches were visited "that we know about," Chavis said. Only three or four actually contacted police, who later determined that other Kannapolis churches had experienced similar visits. The "disruptions" at churches occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., according to police. Chavis said the state has an an obscure statute that allows police to charge someone with disrupting a church service. Meanwhile, police are poised to learn more about the men this coming Sunday, if they make an appearance. "We're definitely going to be seeing if we can locate them this Sunday, if they intend on making those visits," Chavis said. Authorities ask anyone with information about the men's identities or affiliation to contact the Kannapolis Police Department at 704-920-4000. Further details from another report: ... "Each church reported that the individuals seemed to be there to deliver some type of message but were acting strangely and made no sense," a police statement said. ... The Road Less Traveled

Beloved, gaze in thine own heart, The holy tree is growing there; From joy the holy branches start, And all the trembling flowers they bear.

-William Butler Yeats

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence;
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Each day of our lives is a gift to be savored and the choice is ours alone. The earth, all of the earth, is evolving. Birthing pains are hard and well, painful. So much sadness, so much wrongness in our lives. What can I, one little soul do to make it better, to help?

The answer is simply to make your choice, each day, to see love, to see the beauty in our world. A constant battle is waging for your soul my friend, and up to you to choose the path of love.

This is as I, will dream it to be...

I saw the horses that carried the souls of those who thought they were sick and dying ride into the clouds their tails streaming behind them...and as they began to touch the darkness beyond the clouds their tails and manes became as brilliant multicolored fire, with their hoofbeats becoming a deafening roar...then I heard the laughter of the children they had once been rise above the sounds...and they called "look oh brothers and sisters, truely the weight of the illusion is lifted from us"...and the ramuda of lights became so many as to not be countable, streaking across the heavens so brghtly that even the sun could not dim their brightness...

Then I saw the elders sitting in the circles of the world, saying "what must we do to stop the suffering?" and into their circles the Owl flew to rest on the centerpole of the lodge. Many said "It is the Owl, great mystery is upon us", while others said "It is the Owl, disaster is near", and while still others said "It is the Owl, someone will be plucked from the illusion"... Then the Owl spoke, and as he did the smoke in the lodges began to churn and become two, side by side pictures of what was to come. "I am Owl, the watcher of all dreams, and I have a message. Both of these paths are possible, but only one will be chosen"...In the smoke shapes formed events, on one side was the decimation of a planet and its peoples...Wars fought with clubs and sticks and even humans feasting on others as all other food became tainted with the foulness of the wars. Disease and pain were rampant, as was cruelty and suffering...

In the other smoke was a planet of plenty and Spirit where it's peoples created all they needed as easily as thinking it, where creation was honored and life within the illusion was recognized as a step, not a destination. The animals had voices and the people heard and understood their wisdom, and the Spirits of those who had left the illusion gave wisdom to those still within. In this illusion the trappings of time were recognized as simple reminders to live to the fullest, and they held no fear for those there. Again the Owl spoke. "If you would live in the first world, you have only to continue as you are. The prophesied times are upon you, and you have chosen to dream this lesson into your world... But, if you would live in the second world, you have only to rechoose your dream. Once chosen, it will change the path of the prophesies, and your intent in every action will create the new illusion..."

I saw the elders in the circles begin to choose, some in the first direction, others in the other, until all had made the choice, and while I could not understand why any would choose the first, I knew that Creator had a reason for the choice. Then all at once I saw the very fabric of the illusion multiply into two, not as one and a new one, but two old ones that were close together. They merged and the rules of creation changed, where each could manifest their destiny according to their chosen intent, with a single thought...And once again they split into two, the two illusions mirroring the events of the smoke shapes. I stood in a lodge in the second illusion, as I had chosen, with the other elders that had done the same. The Owl slowly looked at us all once more, and flew off... We stepped out of the lodge to see a bright sky full of fiery horses thundering across the sky, and riding all upon them were the Spirits of those who had thought they were sick or dying, each flaming with energy and health so intense, that the sun grew brighter from their energy as they passed...and as we listened above the sound of our own joyous hearts, we could plainly hear their voices sounding like children reborn, as they flew overhead ... and laughed...

This is as I saw it, this is as it was. This is as I, will dream it to be...

As a Little Child

Verily I say unto you
Whosoever
Shall not receive
the kingdom of God
as a little child
he shall not
enter therein
Mark 10:15

All of us children are born natural mystics. Then someone (TPTB as they are called on the internet), someone takes us and molds us into logical adult robot vegetables. Just like this song –

Supertramp--The Logical Song

When I was young, it seemed that life
was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the
birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
joyfully, playfully
watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I
could be so dependable,
clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There
are times when all the world's asleep,
the questions run too deep
for
such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I
know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

Now watch
what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
liberal, fanatical,
criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respecable, presentable, a vegtable!

At night,
when all the world's asleep,
the questions run so deep
for such a simple
man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it
sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

But something wonderful has happened to me. I’ve thrown off my logical thinking cap and I have become a “child” again. I giggle to myself all throughout the day as I find magic and hidden secrets everywhere. And hidden beneath that bible verse above is exactly what Jesus was trying to say to us.

Some of my most beloved “childrens” books now become deeper, richer and more wonderful. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Narnia Link

Children enter a “magical” hidden world through an old wardrobe. I’m giggling with glee as I write this. That magical world is all around you, it’s hidden. But you can find it if you search for it as a “child”.

And even Harry Potter, as the story begins, Harry is clueless and lives in a “muggles” world. A very sad world indeed. But then Harry is whisked away and discovers hidden in plain sight are portals to worlds full of magic and discovers that he himself is “magical”.

I’ll be writing later about some of the magical worlds I have discovered hidden in plain sight. But for now my “muggles” world is calling me back.

Music, Life, and Good Vibrations

Music/Good Vibrations

'Many say that life entered the human body by the help of music, but the truth is that life itself is music.' Hafiz (Persian Sufi poet)

Faith
is a bird that feels dawn breaking
and sings while it is still dark

"SOUND" NUTRITION: Will Music Eliminate World Hunger? - Edith Kermit Roosevelt

Tomorrow's food and fuel may be supplied by plants on a diet of music and spray of hormones, chelated amino acids and trace minerals. That's the vision of Plant Scientist Dan Carlson, who foresees a Jack-in-the-Beanstalk world with gigantic flora feeding the multitudes and replenishing the earth's supply of life-giving oxygen.

"I believe that birds act as scouts for nature," he says. "Their songs act as a harmonic trigger in the spring time, breaking the dormancy in the seeds just as sound tape opens up the plant's potential for growth. The same relationship comes to mind when birds migrate from their habitats in the fall of the year. Then plants go into dormancy.

"Crickets with their chirping play the same role in causing night plants to grow," he goes on to say. "And we now experience the consequences of decreasing the number of different harmonic resonators in the decline of our forests."

Well, it's taken me forever to get the "guts" to start posting on here again. I've been surfing and reading and learning. It's been quite a wonderful journey.

I had become quite inhibited because I had ran across so many on the web, that I call "intellectual elites". They sneer at my little old views of enlightment. I felt inferior in some way, and ashamed in some way of who I am.

But I realize that I am just as important as anyone else. However I interpret the universe and the boundless love therein, is fine.

And who knows, in my own little way perhaps my song might be beautiful.

I'm ready to sing some more. Slightly off tune, and off kilter, but that's ok.

Jackson Brown – Lawyers in Love
His words couldn’t be more appropriate today

I can't keep up with what's been going on
I think my heart must just be slowing down
Among the human beings in their designer jeans
Am i the only one who hears the screams
And the strangled cries of lawyers in love

God sends his spaceships to america, the beautiful
They land at six o'clock and there we are, the dutiful
Eating from tv trays, tuned into to happy days

Waiting for world war iii while jesus slaves
To the mating calls of lawyers in love

Last night i watched the news from washington, the capitol
The russians escaped while we weren't watching them, like russians will
Now we've got all this room, we've even got the moon
And i hear the u.s.s.r. will be open soon
As vacation land for lawyers in love

As if i really didn't understand
That i was just another part of their plan
I went off looking for the promise
Believing in the motherland
And from the comfort of a dreamer's bed
And the safety of my own head
I went on speaking of the future
While other people fought and bled
The kid i was when i first left home
Was looking for his freedom and a life of his own
But the freedom that he found wasn't quite as sweet
When the truth was known
I have prayed for america
I was made for america
It's in my blood and in my bones
By the dawn's early light
By all i know is right
We're going to reap what we have sown

As if freedom was a question of might
As if loyalty was black and white
You hear people say it all the time-
"my country wrong or right"
I want to know what that's got to do

With what it takes to find out what's true
With everyone from the president on down
Trying to keep it from you

The thing i wonder about the dads and moms
Who send their sons to the vietnams
Will they really think their way of life
Has been protected as the next war comes?
I have prayed for america
I was made for america
Her shining dream plays in my mind
By the rockets red glare
A generation's blank stare
We better wake her up this time

The kid i was when i first left home
Was looking for his freedom and a life of his own
But the freedom that he found wasn't quite as sweet
When the truth was known
I have prayed for america
I was made for america
I can't let go till she comes around
Until the land of the free
Is awake and can see
And until her conscience has been found

How long will it take to find the higher power moving in me?

Power in the insect
Power in the sea
Power in the snow falling silently
Power in the blossom
Power in the stone
Power in the song being sung alone
Power in the wheatfield
Power in the rain
Power in the sunlight and the hurricane
Power in the silence
Power in the flame
Power in the sound of the lover's name
The power of the sunrise and the power of a prayer released
On the edge of my country, i pray for the ones with the least

Hunger in the midnight, hunger at the stroke of noon
Hunger in the banquet, hunger in the bride and groom
Hunger on the tv, hunger on the printed page
And there's a god-sized hunger underneath the questions of the age
And an absence of light
In the deepening night
Where i wait for the sun
Looking east

It’s always darkest before the dawn. Keep the faith.
